You Know You’re an SPD Parent When… Part XI

October 12, 2017 by jennifer Leave a Comment

I asked parents this question: You Know You’re an SPD Parent When… The responses have been overwhelming. I believe we all want to feel like someone gets us. We can’t be the only parent with the crazy kid (who we love of course). Sensory Processing Disorder shows up in so many ways. And yet, many of us are having similar experiences.

Finish this sentence… “You know you’re an SPD parent when ____.”

Your three year old constantly wears 18-month pajamas because “they feel soft and tight.” Donielle M.

Your 4 yr old makes a weighted blanket for her baby doll. – Emily B.

Although you have six years of experience working with and de-escalating kids at a hospital for children developmental disabilities (autism, SPD, ADHD), you receive pamphlets on “disciplining” your child because your daughter with SPD is having considerably more meltdowns at school than at home. – Kyla C.

You’re upset your child comes up to you and does deep rubbing sensations on your arms because that’s what you do when she’s upset. – Emmy H.

You buy the same shirt and pants in all colors so people know you do, in fact, change your child’s clothes even though they all look the same. – Kyla C.

You keep a set of noise cancellation head phones on you at all times. – Michelle J.
