What Is Stimming

September 8, 2022 by jennifer Leave a Comment

Stimming — it’s a set of behaviors that a lot of parents seemed confused about. Often parents will ask in our discussion groups how to stop their child from stimming… but it can actually be a helpful activity.

What is Stimming

Agony Autie, an Autistic presenter & advocate, shares her fabulous insight and understanding about stimming in the video below!

As she describes it, “Output blocks input.”

So simple but really brilliant. It’s what allows many of our kids to take in the world around them while managing the sensory input and can be a terrific coping mechanism.

She also  “Stims are anything which is repetitive, stimulatory, and soothing and comforting to the person.”
